Norm day 2

Yesterday it was way colder than the day before but Norm and I decided to go after them anyways! we headed out mid morning trying to reach for some temps that were tolerable. We had high sun and far less fish activity today but we still managed to land a MONSTER!

Norm- day 1

Two days ago Norm and I had the river to ourselves. We saw a couple of wade fisherman by the boat ramp but we literally didn't see another angler after that. We just thought it was cold...cold was still yet to come. It was drizzly and wet and perfect for fishing. Norm landed several super nice browns and one stud rainbow!

Frank and Herman Crushin It.

Well the past few weeks I have seen some great fish, Yesterday some more of the fish I have been seeing floating around higher in the water column finally started to eat. Its Been windy as hell the past two days. Herman and Frank casted wonderful in the wind and didn't get frustrated. They bared with me as I was blown around like I had a sail on my boat! Here are a few of the fish we were blessed to catch!

My Dad

Just in case you guys didn't know, my dad is the man. We don't get to fish together nearly as much as I would like but I was surprised with a cool treat on monday. I was out guiding when I came around a corner to see my dad out fishing. He was cool enough to share his spot and I shared some nuts and an apple. Then he totally guided my clients into some fish! Was spotting them and helping them cast to them! It was really cool. Anyways I snapped this quick photo. Its not the biggest fish he caught all weekend I can assure you, but it was one of the ones I was around for! I Love You Pops! thanks for being so awesome!~

Doc Portera and my man Willie!

Well the Portera's came back for the annual fall classic fishing day. Its been really neat watching Will grow into a pretty good angler and a young man over the years. This was the first year he held his own with pops, well actually passed pops in the big fish show. Both guys did awesome and we caught lots of fish. These two just happened to be nicer than the rest!

A little Half day fun

Last week I got to fish some some great guys who had known each other for years. They had both moved away and grown families and got together for a little fly fishing. It was a pretty neat experience getting to hang with the guys and hear all about their lives. We caught lots of fish including these nice to bows

Little Rainy Day Lovin

Yesterday I got the chance to fish with the good Dr. Albright and his resident Adam. It was a cool, cloudy, rainy morning on the Little Red. Those type of days are the best for catching browns. People always say they want to catch the browns but these are the days when its done. We fished for a half of day and they landed a handful of rainbows each as well as a nice brown or two!

Mr. Ellis

John and Shane fished with me last week. We started the Day off doing a little drift fishing. We caught lots of fish from the boat right out of the gate and as the morning progressed it slowed a little so we decided to do some wading. Then we got back in the boat and fished some of the new rising water and threw some streamers. All of our methods produced fishing including this one river monster! Shane had one on that was larger that we lost right at the net....

MAHONEY

So over the past 5 years or so Ryan Mahoney has been fishing with me, he's learned a lot. He has landed some great fish, and he has lost some good fish. One thing is for sure though. He continued to fish and put in his dues. Well his River Karma was good last sunday. He landed this monster...plus several other fish along with his lady. I would say all the way around. Ryan was on top on his world on Sunday.

Busters Bow

Fished a group trip last week of some Texans. Buster and Tyler ended up in my boat. We chased a small amount of water and it made for some good fishing! we caught plenty of fish all day and had a great time doing it, this was one of buster's prettier fish he landed that day so we made sure to snap a pic. was pleased with the way it came out!

John and Pete's Norfork Adventure

Last Week I got the chance to walk down memory lane and Fish with John. I won't even attempt to spell his last name but he use to take me to school my freshman year! It was a fun day. I got introduced to his friend Pete. We fished the Norfork. They learned a few things about presentation and we waxed them. It was an incredible day of fishing on min flow.

Sanders Makin it happen

Last year I guided Kris sanders and his father in law for the first time. We went down to dripping springs and caught lots of stockers. It was a great intro the fly fishing in the Ozarks. They wanted a little bit more of a challenge this year so with dead low water on the Red we ran a drift boat up to Norfork and did a sweet float.

My man Henry.

Today I fished my man Henry. Henry and I have been fishing together for a while now and have had some incredible trips with him solo, his son and his grandsons. Today we had to work pretty hard for the fish we got. We drifted lots of flies over lots of water. Some days you just have to work harder than others....but we also got rewarded today for our efforts and Henry got to land this amazing rainbow and made it totally worth it!

87 years young

The past few days I guided a group of Osage men. William, has fished with me before many times. This year he turns 88.  He's a hell of a fisherman and a really awesome guy to get to spend the day in a boat with. I certainly hope at 87 I am floating rivers and catching fish. Yesterday morning the clouds settled in above us and we had crazy amounts of monster browns moving all around us. We didn't hook the submarines but we did manage to land lots a great fish, including this brown.

Lou and Louis.

Yesterday I ran up to Norfork to meet Lou and Louis. We decided to take the newest predator drift boat out. The new boat is a little different than the one on the site and a lot lighter, faster, sleeker, more open and a blast to fish out of. The boys crushed it. We caught several browns, lots of cutties, and of course plenty of bows. Almost every fish we caught was broad and beautiful. This river is fishing really well right now. If you want to get up there soon let me know and Ill do my best to make it happen. Once the water came up we pushed off the river and jumped over to Dry Run creek. Well as you know there is not a better time to be there than now. So what are you waiting for?!?

Nate Strikes Again

Last Sunday I took out my boys Nate and Dollar.  The water was low so we decided to nymph. Nate wasn't on his game at all. Dollar absolutely was.  It was every 8 fish dollar caught Nate would catch one.  Sometimes we just have days like that right...well then they blew the horn and Nate's eyes lit up like a kid and a candy store. We busted out the streamer rods and all of a sudden Nate began to smile! Here are  just a few of the reasons why...

Colby lays it down.

Last week I ran a group trip with Jamie, It was a lot of fun. We took a group of guys from Calumet and some of their customers. The bite was pretty awesome and they boated lots of fish. I didn't take many pics but I did get this one of Colby with a nice 17 inch rainbow one morning!

Its getting to be that time of year....

Fall is approaching fast, I still have maybe 8 or 10 days available in oct and nov. But they are going fast. Its my favorite time of year. I love the color changes, I love the Blue Winged Olives, I love the tug of the big browns, I love watching the eagles, I love chasing the hybrids on Greers Ferry. I think this is going to be a cold winter, so fall fishing may be the ticket. If you want to have the trip of your lifetime I wouldn't wait any longer to book it. email me at millnermatt@gmail.com or kati and ask for my schedule at kati@jamierouse.net Looking forward to getting you guys on the water!!
p.s. just a little preview of whats to come. fished on sunday with my buddy hays and these are a few of the fish we landed while goofing around!

JD

Over the weekend I did a group trip with Rouse. We took out a crew of mobsters from FTN. I had Philip and JD in my boat. It was a low water and sunny day. We had to work hard for our fish but still probably landed 40...wow kinda makes me feel spoiled, not many places you have 40 fish days and call it tough! JD landed the two nicest fish of the day. One jumped back in before we could get its pic, but here is the fish he did land. The pic was taken mostly to make philip jealous...as he has still not been on the blog.

Guy and Rich

Guy and Rich are a couple of awesome guys TN boys who love Ar. They make an annual pilgrimage  for a week or so and fish usually the white, norfork and the little red. This year we had kinda bum conditions for the style of fisherman they are but we sure had fun, We nymphed up a bunch rainbows in the morning and then waited for the dam to release water in the afternoon. We got several nice browns, and a hybrid. It turned out to be a really fun day as par usual when fishing with these guys!

Jans Hog

Friday Afternoon I had the chance to fish with Mike and Jan. It was a great morning of fishing. Mike started the morning off with a really big fish on and ended up breaking it off. Jan however had a chance at a thumper a few hours later and landed it! It was the nicest fish she has ever landed she said which is always kind of cool!

Fox and Mike

Well the river continues to fish well. We are in decent generation pattern for this time of year. Typically we are seeing a couple of hours of water in the afternoons with little to almost no generation on the weekend. The fish are certainly enjoying the days with higher flows but the wade fisherman enjoy the lower flows. Here are a few nice fish my man Fox caught, as well as one his pops Mike caught.

Hybrid!

Yesterday I took out a long time client of my Johhny Jackson. It was my first time however to fish with Johhny's wife, Connie. They did great we pretty consistantly caught fish all day long. Not just Jonny. Connie held her own for sure. At the end of the day we were starting to wrap it up when this happened! A Hybrid sipped Johhny's egg pattern! It was a sweet fish on 5x tippet and his 5 wt rod!

Randal's fish.

Saturday my man Jimmy Bogan came on back to see me and brought his friend Randal. The morning was tuff, fish were kinda spooky. Of course there was literally fifty cars at the boat ramp parking lot. We did manage to find a few sweet spots and land a total of 40 fish for the morning. Which we were certainly pleased with!

My man, Dr. Usdan.

So the good Doctor came to spend a couple of days fishing with me over the weekend. We fished thursday afternoon on the little red and friday afternoon on the Norfork. The bite on the Red was great. In fact Dr. caught all browns and no bows. It was a perfect streamer kind of day. The norfork was a little more challenging. We caught some nice fish including this stud rainbow but they did not come to the boat easy thats for sure!
