brown chicken brown trout...
Two days ago Tony and I decided to take advantage of another perfect water flow day for the drift boat. We did a float from the swinging bridge down to lobo. The conditions in the sky were nice and grey and the water was clear. we stayed true to pounding streamers. We turned some nice fish and landed several solid browns and lots of bows...here is just a quick photo of a beautiful brown for ya'll!

A day Off
I love winter, the rivers are empty, the skies hold a grey hue and the fish get frisky...Yesterday Tony and I decided to go take a float on the Little Red. Yes the flood gates are still open but its not tons of water. The line was freezing the guides and we certainly couldn't feel our fingers but these fish certainly made every bit of the afternoon worth it! We still have some great dates open in Jan and Feb. if you want to get your tug on let us know!

Greg and Aaron
Last weekend my boys Greg and Aaron came down with a group of boys to fish with us on a big ole group trip. I was only able to make it happen with them one day due to the streamer school but the day we spend was awesome. We took the driftboat down the Norfork and the boys were determined not to bobber fish so we stuck it out with streamers and got some great rewards! here are just a few of the kick ass fish the boys picked up on the float! be sure to gawk over the size of this brookie! we didnt get the pic of the rainbow that completed the grand slam but one was certainly had on monday! this amazing bite should only get better as winter goes on. we still have some great dates available so book your trip today!
Toad Fly- JRFFA Streamer school
So some exciting things are happening in central Arkansas. Our friend Tim Bull who owns the Toad Fly Shop in Conway is gung-ho for getting new and experienced anglers more involved and creating even more of a fly fishing community. We at Jamie Rouse Fly Fishing Adventures kicked off this process buy hosting a two day streamer school in Tim's shop. One day in the class room and one day on water. It was a great success the guys learned a lot in the classroom and it really made a difference on the way they preformed on the water the second day. check out Tims shop www.thetoadfly.com and of course you can always look at our official Jamie Rouse Fly Fishing page at www.jamierouse.net

NORM!
Today I took out my man Norm on the Little Red, It was the first time I have fished here in a while. We are finally starting to see some water flowing and the fish are certainly appreciating it. The water is flood gate water, but its cold and moving. They have been shutting the gates down at night so its made for some great flows. This was certainly the fish of the day for us!

RAIN,RAIN, RAIN
Yesterday I fished with two Memphians, Dollar and Nate. The boys wanted to toss streamers around and with no flow again on the Red we made the drive up to the Fork. The drive up the weather was amazing. Once we got on the water...the bottom fell out. It freaking poured on us all day long. The fishing was good. We worked on some new techniques and landed as well as saw some awesome fish. The boys stayed committed to the streamer game and we rewarded. The real treat for me was at the end of the float we moved a 10 plus pound fish and forced him to eat..unfortunately we did not land him but it was still an amazing thing to see!
The Krausnick's
Friday I took out a super fun mother and son combo. Veazey and Carl Krausnick. It was our first time to fish together and man did we have a blast. The Little Red had such low flows we decided to make the trek up to the Norfork and it was certainly worth it. There was an sweet 1/2 unit of water running and the fish were loving it. We caught some nice bows, and few browns and Carl caught his first cuttie. The weather was outstanding for a drift boat float down the fork and I am pretty sure memories where made forever!

Its not Often that Jamie,Tony and I all get to go fishing. Usually one of us is working but last week we happened to get that chance and jumped on it. We took the drift boat up to Norfork and played around using some new techniques. We smoked some awesome fish...It was a killer water flow and some decent cloud cover. I think we are going to do another story on guide shack so i wont give away to many spoilers I just wanted to post a few photos to get everyone all fired up for how awesome this winter fishing!

We are proud to have Jamie Rouse Fly Fishing Adventures as our first fly fishing Clinic on Jan 19-20. Jamie and the Crew will putting on a streamer class that will teach the skills that made them the “2012 Orvis endorsed Guide Service of the Year”. In addition to Saturdays class on rigging and how to tie some of the most effective streamers, Jamie, Matt, and Tony will also be showing their techniques for using not only the 7 and 8wt rods but how to fish streamers productively with 6wt rods.
The cost for both days is $250 and lets you attend the Saturday class on how to tie all the streamers JRFFA uses, how to rig them up and where to fish them. Guides Day Off
Yesterday I took the drift boat up to fish with my man Dominic who owns Two Rviers Fly Shop for a fun fishing day. The river was pretty empty and the air was cold but the fish were pretty happy. We blistered some great fish including a new personal best cutttie for Dominic. Here are just a few shots of the fish we brought to the boat. Winter is the time to fish folks so don't be afraid of the cold come on over and see us and get your tug on this winter!
Shane and Wes
On Monday I took out my good client Shane and his friend Wes. We decided to make a little bit longer trek up to the Norfork because the water flow was more our speed for out goals for the day. It was an amazing the day even though the SWPA did not stick to the water plan. Shane had one goal. He wanted to catch a brown. He has been fishing for several years all over the country but the fish had eluded him. On our fish drift he caught one, and a nice one at that! The boys proceeded to hammer fish all day long. We pretty much had the river to ourselves except a few wade fisherman towards the end of the afternoon. The drift boat truly is a star on that river. email me if you are wanting to get your drift boat trip booked this winter today!
Snow day!
Well this year we actually got a pretty strong snow (for the south) and had ourselves a while Christmas. In some places in our area we got up to 16 inches. fortunately my buddy Hays was in town and we decided after a little cabin fever we would drag the drift boat out and get us a few tugs. We wade fished the first day but really wanted to float on day two. The fishing was okay, we caught some nice fish a few browns and some sassy bows but the magic in the day was certainly the solitude and the amazing back drop! Don't let the winter weather slow you down this year. If you want to cure your cabin fever we are offering some great winter deals. shoot me an email at millnermatt@gmail.com for pricing and options for cabin fever trips!
